Human rights

The FCO supports human rights, democracy and good governance around the world.

Our work is based on the principles of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and other human rights treaties that provide the international human rights framework.

We run programmes and projects and work with international organisations such as the UN and with other countries.

For specific country related information, including Human Rights issues, please see our country profiles.

The most recent Annual Report on Human Rights was released in March 2010 and gives a comprehensive overview of the FCO’s work on human rights during 2009.

For more info on Human rights in the UK, please visit the Ministry of Justice website.
